Apart from ordering a 250ml size for a really small project of just one square metre or so, Sample Pots are an important part of deciding a specific colour.

We recommend ordering a Sample Pot if:

• you need to decide between two very similar shades of colour
• you want to test the colour appearance on a sample panel at the project location
• you want to establish a more accurate consumption estimate on the particular surface you are painting
• a close colour match to another decorating item is desired
• you do murals or similar designs where only smaller amounts of a particular colour are needed

You don't need a sample pot if:

• you are already sure of the colour you want to paint
• a slight colour variation is of lesser concern to you
• you re-order paint that you know of from previous applications

Yes, all Bauwerk Limewash Sample Pots are made with the actual Limewash Paint available in larger quantities and are ready to use.

The colour in the Limewash Sample Pot is accurate when applied to a surface that is a close match to the surface you want to paint.

If you use a sample board you can place it against different walls that receive a different amount of light. Limewash appears darker when in liquid form and when initially painted. As it dries the colour lightens to the intended shade. Allow one hour for each coat to dry (longer in colder weather) to view your colour accurately.

Bauwerk Sample Pots contain 250ml. That is enough limewash paint for a large enough area to see the effect of the colour (about 1 to 1.5 m²).

We strongly recommend using a special limewash brush for the sample application.

Bauwerk Brushes are made from natural fibres specially sourced for lime paint application. Their unique bristle structure retains the correct amount of paint and releases it evenly across the surface during painting.

Sample Pot paints can be applied directly onto clean interior and exterior walls or portable board surfaces.

• Instead of painting neat squares for samples, it’s advisable to create a feathered-out testing area. This technique helps conceal the sample area when repainting, plus gives a better sample.
• Alternatively, paint onto a board that you can carry around the space. This is a good idea of you are painting a natural breathable wall like render, lime plaster, unpainted brick, it helps to show the colour in different light, also prevents the possibility of show-through on your finished paintwork.
• Use a Bauwerk Natural bristle brush as their bristles are designed to spread the paint correctly.
